This is an unusual defence technique when you find yourself in the bottom of side control.
As usual, your defense starts with proper frames. However, instead of using these frames to face your opponent, escaping your hip and reestablishing guard, you are going to attack your opponent's neck and underhook arm at the same time by bringing your bottom arm around his elbow. The move can finish with a sweep if you bring your far leg over his head and use momentum to sit up and establish the top position. Pay attention to the details of what each arm is doing, and the timing and sequence of events as described by Sensei Douglas Santos in this video.
