When what’s stopping you from passing is the knee shield, you can turn things around by switching everything to the other side. Control the bottom leg and shift your opponent’s hips to the opposite side and establish control.
Sprawl and zig zag your way to the mount while keeping control.

Use your knee shield to connect with your opponent’s hip and your arms to frame.
When he gets close enough, your frame becomes a grip on his neck. At this point you can release the knee shield and make the choke tighter and finish the submission.
